At 1,673 acres, Maranacook Lake is a medium-sized water body made primarily up of two basins. Both basins have excellent public boat launch facilities with ample parking. The waterway is moderately-developed with many summer homes and year-round residences and on many weekends the lake is a center point of activity. Maranacook Lake is well-marked with navigational buoys by the Maine Department of Conservation. The two basins are distinctly different from a fishery management standpoint. The North basin, located in Readfield, is about 673 acres in surface area and has a highly irregular shoreline. This basin is relatively shallow and the water temperatures are similar from top to bottom.
