Located a short distance from the capital city of Augusta, Maine, Long Pond is a beautiful body of water in the famed Belgrade Lakes system. The pond is divided into two distinct basins by a narrows at Castle Island. Together they total 2,714 acres. The lower (south) basin is the deepest at 94 feet and contains a sizeable amount of habitat to support both cold-water and warm-water fish. The upper (north) basin, although not quite so deep, is also well-suited for cold-water and warm-water fish. Except for portions of the north basins east shore, where the village of Belgrade Lakes is located, and near Castle Island, at the narrows, Long Ponds shoreline remains moderately-developed. An excellent public boat launch with ample parking is located off Castle Island Road on the lower basin, just south of the narrows. Long Pond is well-marked with navigational buoys by the Maine Department of Conservation.Featured Species: Landlocked Salmon, Lake Trout, Brown Trout, Smallmouth Bass, Largemouth
