Scout's Ride of the Month

Cowboy Capital ~ 177 Miles

Featured on U.S. Regional Touring Gulf Part 2: Texas

Farm-to-Market 337 is one of the famed "Three Sisters," which makes this Hill Country loop west of San Antonio one of the best road trips in the Lone Star State. Lose yourself in the peacefulness of Lost Maples State Natural Area near Vanderpool-this park features amazing limestone cliffs, deep canyons and clear streams. The nearby Lone Star Motorcycle Museum offers a winning combo of cool rides from as far back as 1910 and some mighty tasty Aussie meat pies (try the ground chuck with gravy). Then hold onto your horses once you hit Bandera, nicknamed the "Cowboy Capital of Texas," where you should soak up the atmosphere at Arkey Blue's Silver Dollar Bar, one of the best honky-tonks in town. Strange as it sounds, you'll actually see horses "parked" next to cars and motorcycles. If you're doing this trip between March and October, make like a bat outta hell from Bandera to make sure you wind up in Concan by sunset for the unbelievable sight of millions of bats heading out of Frio Cave.

This loop showcases all that makes Texas great.
