Scout's Ride of the Month
Cher the Road to the Forest ~ 250 Miles
This drive starts in the Los Angeles beach town of Santa Monica, famous for its progressive politics and Third Street Promenade entertainment. After enjoying the beachside attractions, head up the road to legendary Malibu and its 27 miles of coastal beauty. Chumash Indians inhabited this area for nearly 4,000 years, but now you're more likely to see a celebrity resident, such as Cher, driving on the "PCH" in a convertible or jogging on the beach. Once you turn inland, the landscape turns all the more mountainous. Artsy Ojai is always a treat to explore, but so is the forest enveloping 8,831-foot Mount Piños. You'll definitely revel in the nearly two-million acres of the spectacular Los Padres National Forest, which offers a respite from the urban sprawl of the L.A. Basin.
This is SoCal at its best!
